Sociology

Sociology is the scientific study of human social behavior and its origins, development, organizations, and institutions. It is a social science that uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge about human social actions, social structure and functions.

The traditional focuses of sociology include social stratification, social class, social mobility, religion, secularization, law, sexuality and deviance. In our course students will examine these topics and dive into the decisions made by individuals, societies, and governments when dealing with the topics.  Students will examine how sociological theory and thought drives our customs, norms, and behaviors in everyday life. As a result of taking this course students will develop a basic understanding of some of the key topics and concepts in sociology and a deeper understanding of themselves.
